Hello Village at Marymount Families, Friends, and Staff. This is Sue Nall the Executive Director.
We had another Villa St. Joseph staff member test positive for COVID today.
Our COVID update since March 2020: Villa St. Joseph has 7 Active staff and or Resident Cases. We had a total of 227 resident or staff cases. Memory Care Assisted Living at Villa St Joseph has no active Resident or Staff cases and a cumulative total of 14 cases. Marymount Place has 1 Active Resident or Staff cases — and a cumulative total of 41 resident/staff cases. The good news is none of the cases seem to be related.
As noted in yesterday’s update, Villa St. Joseph and Marymount Place remain in outbreak mode. Staff continue to test each week. All Marymount Place and Villa St. Joseph staff must be in N95 masks and face shields while in the building.
You may have heard on the news today that new COVID boosters soon will be available after receiving authorization from the government. The updated shots provide a stronger shield against the BA.4 and BA.5 omicron subvariants, which continue to infect Americans each day.
The updated boosters have caused some confusion. Here’s what I can tell you: Boosters, after receiving emergency use authorization from the FDA, must get approval from the CDC and its advisers. I’m hearing some doses could be available this weekend – and beyond Labor Day — if all goes as planned.
You may be wondering about booster side effects. They are not expected to differ from those associated with the current vaccine. Side effects include redness and swelling around the area where the shot was given. Occasional fatigue, headache, and muscle soreness are other symptoms, according to the CDC.
Please consider getting fully vaccinated and boostered. These vaccines truly are your best defense against COVID.
Enjoy this last holiday weekend of the Summer. Remember, wash and sanitize your hands. Wear a mask and watch your distance in large groups. Stay safe everyone.
