Good afternoon, Village at Marymount Family, Friends, and Staff. This is Sue Nall the Executive Director.
January 25 truly was a “good day”. In addition to the sun shining, we tested our residents and had no new COVID cases! Cuyahoga County’s positivity rate has also declined to 7.74%. COVID cases are down dramatically at Marymount Hospital. There are no COVID patients in the ICU per the last update we received.
We did have 1 new Villa St. Joseph COVID case January 24, but the hope is we’re starting to come out from under the Omicron variant.
Our COVID update since March 2020: Villa St. Joseph has 10 Active staff and or Resident Cases. We had a total of 179 resident or staff cases. Memory Care Assisted Living at Villa St Joseph has 0 active Resident or Staff cases and a cumulative total of 14 cases. Marymount Place has 0 Active Resident or Staff cases — and a cumulative total of 30 resident/staff cases.
New data from the CDC shows that older adults ages 65 and up who are not vaccinated are at a significantly higher risk of being hospitalized with COVID than seniors who are vaccinated.
Those who haven’t been vaccinated are nearly 50 times more likely to be hospitalized compared to those who were fully vaccinated and boosted.
Unvaccinated seniors were 17 times more likely to be hospitalized compared to their peers who only received two doses of the shot. The risk declined, but not significantly, for unvaccinated adults between 50 and 64 years old. These unvaccinated people were 44 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID than those who were fully vaccinated and had a booster shot.
The CDC has said anyone with Omicron infection can spread the virus to others, even if they are vaccinated or don’t have symptoms.
We will remain vigilant with our wearing of proper PPEs while practicing proper handwashing, mask-wearing, and social distancing. Protect yourself from COVID and the Omicron variant. We’re starting to see light at the end of this latest COVID tunnel.
