Hello Village at Marymount Families, Friends, and Staff. This is Sue Nall the executive director.

We had a positive in-house case yesterday. This person has been at Villa St. Joseph for four days and tested negative upon admission. But they tested positive during resident testing yesterday. This person was moved to a private room on another unit. The good news is that through contact tracing we determined the person was exposed to COVID prior to their admission to VSJ.

We also have a resident returning to us who also is positive. Contact tracing shows this was also an offsite exposure. This resident also will be isolated in another unit.

Our COVID updatesince March 2020: Villa St. Joseph has 3 Active staff and or Resident Cases. We had a total of 203resident or staff cases. Memory Care Assisted Living at Villa St Joseph has 0 active Resident or Staff cases and a cumulative total of 14 cases. MarymountPlace has 1 Active Resident or Staff cases — and a cumulative total of 36resident/staff cases.

Today we retested Marymount Place residents, staff, and dietary staff working at Marymount Place since June 30. More good news! We had no positive cases today. But we can’t jump the gun … Marymount Place staff must remain in N95 masks and face shields until tomorrow – which marks the 14th day of our last positive case.

Yesterday we tested SCU, CCU third hall, and Clare Hall residents. We are testing SCU, Marymount Place, and therapy staff once a week. Staff not up to date with vaccines must test twice weekly for this week.

The CDC reported the BA.5 variant is now the most dominant strain of COVID in the country. While it’s difficult to obtain an accurate count — given how many people are taking rapid tests at home — there are indications that both reinfections and hospitalizations are increasing. The vaccine may not be effective against this variant.

Please keep COVID in mind when interacting with others. Wear a mask, wash your hands, and watch your distance around others. Stay safe everyone!
